Help shape fair and accountable policing across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight
Police powers — such as stop and search, use of force, stop and account and other interactions with the public — have a significant impact on individuals and communities. To maintain trust, these powers must be used lawfully, proportionately and with transparency.
We are inviting local residents to join our new Use of Police Powers Community Scrutiny Panel, an independent group that will review how a range of police powers are used across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
We welcome applications from all members of our communities, especially people from groups who may be under‑represented or who have lived experience of policing. You do not need specialist knowledge — just an interest in fairness, community voice and constructive discussion.
To make sure the panel operates safely and responsibly:
We want the panel to reflect the full diversity of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, and we encourage anyone with a passion for community accountability to get involved.
The panel meets quarterly, with occasional additional sessions or training opportunities.
Training will be provided to help members feel confident reviewing material and understanding police powers.
If you would like to help shape how police powers are used in your area, you can register your interest here.
Or if you have any further questions about joining and what this would entail, then you can email [email protected]
