Man charged as part of rape investigation in Southampton

Officers investigating a rape in Southampton have charged a man.

We received a report that on Thursday 5 February, a 19-year-old woman had been raped at an address in the Polygon area of Southampton.

The woman is currently being supported by police.

An investigation has been launched and Viaan Surendranathan, 21, of Sirdar Road in Southampton has been charged with the following offences:

• Rape
• Possessing a controlled drug of Class A
• Administering a substance with intent to stupefy / overpower to allow sexual activity

He has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates Court on Monday 9 February.
