22 men involved in violent disorder following a Premier League football match in Southampton have been jailed for a total of more than 29 years.

On Saturday 18 March 2023, Southampton hosted Tottenham Hotspur at St. Mary's Stadium in the Premier League.

Just after 6pm that evening, after the match had finished, police were called to several reports of violent disorder involving fans from the two clubs on Terminus Terrace, at the junction with Oxford Street.

It was reported that a number of people were involved in the disorder, with tables, chairs and glasses being thrown.

As part of our investigation into this disorder, 23 men have been identified and are being sentenced after previously pleading guilty to violent disorder.

So far, 22 of them have been sentenced to a total of 350 months.

Today (Friday 11 April) saw one more of the men sentenced at Southampton Crown Court.

- Philip Anderson, 36, of Dorset Crescent in Basingstoke, received 14 months imprisonment and a six-year football banning order.

- Bradley Doughty, 39, of Holly Gardens in West End, Southampton, received 40 months imprisonment and an eight-year football banning order.

- Charlie Glasspool, 20, of High Street in Shirrell Heath, Southampton, received 12 months imprisonment and a six-year banning order.

- Gerry Glasspool, 42, of High Street in Shirrell Heath, Southampton, received nine months imprisonment and a six-year football banning order.

- Luke Leadbitter, 25, of Fleming Close in Waltham Cross, Herts, received 10 months imprisonment and a six-year football banning order.

Chief Inspector Stuart Ratcliffe, who has been overseeing this investigation, said: "These men are not football fans, they are violent thugs who use football as an excuse to commit serious disorder.

"Chairs, tables and drinking glasses were hurled in the street by these men and this put other innocent fans and members of the public at risk.

"This kind of thuggery is completely unacceptable and we will not tolerate it from anyone.

"Our dedicated Football Unit officers will continue to work with clubs to keep all fans safe and stamp out this type of behaviour.

"I hope these sentences act as a warning to anyone thinking of engaging in this type of behaviour at a football match: We will identify you, we will charge you and you will go to prison."

There is one more man due to be sentenced for the violent disorder in the future.

- Danny Brown, 36, of Brooklands Road in Aylesford, Kent
