A 43-year-old man from Gosport has been jailed for 26 weeks after pleading guilty to shoplifting from two stores in the town.
Andrew Brady, of no fixed abode, was handed the sentence when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday 9 January).
He also pleaded guilty to two breaches of his Criminal Behaviour Order, both of which occurred when he entered the two shops in question. These were a direct breach of one of the conditions of his order.
Brady received eight weeks’ imprisonment for each of the thefts and a total of ten weeks for the breaches.
The first incident occurred on Tuesday 5 November, when he entered the Spar store on Rowner Road and stole £51.04 worth of meat and alcohol.
During the second incident, he entered the Co-op on Privett Road and stole two bottles of alcohol, valued at £5.50.
Brady must also pay a surcharge of £154.
PC Barnett, of Gosport Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I’m pleased to see Brady placed behind bars, ensuring that no other shops can be victims to his criminality.
“As a team, we will always do everything we can to make sure those who commit crime in the Gosport area are held accountable for their actions.
“This sentencing should send a clear message to others who are thinking about stealing from the businesses in our area.
“It will not be tolerated and we will work hard to bring you before the courts, where you will face the consequences.”
Please be sure to continue reporting shopliftings to us, so we are able to take action.
