Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is delighted to welcome Charlie Ilderton as the new Town Inspector for Basingstoke.
Charlie has more than 17-years’ service in policing, working in a variety of roles including Response, Custody and Proactive Crime and High Harm teams.
He also worked within Neighbourhood Policing and was part of the force’s People Hub to support the introduction of new police officers during the recent Uplift programme.
Insp Ilderton has worked as a Response Inspector in the north of the county but has spent the majority of his career in the west of Hampshire, covering Eastleigh and Southampton.
He led Neighbourhood teams across Southampton – most recently in the city centre – leading operations around drug-related harm, youth violence and day time and night time economy.
Charlie has also used his experience as a Bronze Public Order Public Safety Commander to keep people safe during D-Day commemorations, festivals, protests and high-profile football matches.
He has recently returned from a 12-month career break during which he worked to support growth within The Rose Road Association, a Southampton-based charity which supports more than 300 families with respite care and education for children and young adults with disabilities.
Outside of work, Charlie enjoys spending time with his family and children and is a keen runner, and completed the Southampton Marathon in April in just under 4 hours. Recently, he also walked the South Downs Way – Eastbourne to Winchester – in just four days.
Charlie brings a wealth of experience and is delighted to make the move to the north of the county once again.
Insp Ilderton said: “I’m lucky enough to have enjoyed a 17-year career in policing and I’m fortunate to have spent that time working in a variety of roles across different areas.
“My passion is Neighbourhood policing, effective community engagement and problem solving. I feel my policing background and experience will help me make a positive impact in Basingstoke.
“Since arriving in the town, I’m delighted to have started working with our partners to help tackle issues that really impact our communities.
“I will lead my team to relentlessly pursue those people that cause the most harm and make Basingstoke a safe place for everyone.”
