A man has been jailed for 42 weeks for assault causing actual bodily harm and criminal damage in Portsmouth.
Daniel Joseph Brown, 37, of Elm Grove in Southsea was arrested and charged on Monday 5 February and following an incident in December of 2023.
On Friday 1 December 2023, Brown attended a party at an address in Southsea, where he asked a woman who was also at the party for a lift home. The woman agreed and in the early hours of Saturday 2 December, when near his address he was asked to leave the car multiple times, which he refused and became violent.
Brown damaged the vehicle and broke the windscreen and the rear-view mirror before assaulting the woman in the face and causing an injury to her eye. He then left the scene and the woman returned to the party and sought help from friends, who later took her to hospital.
Brown appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court for sentencing on Wednesday 17 July, where he received for 42 weeks imprisonment for the offences and was ordered to pay £1300 in compensation.
DC Vivian Schram from the Serious and Complex Investigations team said “This conviction would not have been possible without the brave support and cooperation of the victim. Her willingness to come forward and provide crucial evidence played a pivotal role in securing this sentence.
“We recognize the importance of victims' support in such cases, as their courage and cooperation are vital in ensuring that offenders are held accountable for their actions and that justice is served.
“We are grateful for the victim’s assistance in this case and hope that this outcome brings her some sense of closure and justice.”
