Appeal for witnesses following collision in Southampton

We are appealing for information following a fatal collision on Northam Bridge in Southampton.

Emergency services were called just after 1:20am today (Saturday 25 April) to an incident involving a car and a motorcycle on Northam Bridge in Southampton.

The incident involved a silver VW Polo and a black Yamaha YZF.

The rider of the motorcycle, a 17-year-old from Fareham, was taken pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

Two men, a 17-year-old and a 29-year-old from Southampton, who were in the VW Polo were arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless/inconsiderate driving.

The 17-year-old man has since been released from custody and will face no further action in relation to this offence.

The 29-year-old man has been released under investigation whilst our enquiries continue.

We would like to thank motorists for their patience as the Northam Bridge was closed for several hours before it could be reopened.

We would like to speak to any witnesses and in particular anyone with relevant dash cam footage of the incident or the moments leading up to it.
