We are appealing for witnesses following a report of an attempted robbery in Winchester.
The incident took place at around 8.40am on Tuesday 10 December in Romsey Road, near the junction with Queen’s Road.
It was reported that a 20-year-old man was hit over the head with a metal baton, and an attempt was made to take his bag.
The victim sustained a cut to the head, for which he received treatment at hospital. He has since been discharged.
Officers attended the scene at the time and arrested a 30-year-old man from Gosport on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and attempted robbery.
He has since been released on conditional bail while we carry out further enquiries.
Officers continue to investigate this incident, and are appealing for anyone who saw what happened to call 101, quoting the reference number 44240536726.
We would also like to hear from anyone who thinks they may have dashcam or CCTV footage that may help our investigation.
