A new and exciting opportunity for people outside of the uniformed police service to join us as detective constables.

The Specialist Entry Detective Programme is your chance to be part of a professional and dedicated team carrying out a variety of crime investigations, including serious and complex cases, cybercrime and other responsibilities. You will be at the forefront of policing innovation as we train, support and encourage you in your role as a detective.

Initially joining as a student police officer, you will complete a structured development programme which will enable you to progress to the role of detective constable, subject to performance.

As a detective constable your duties will encompass a range of investigative activities such as statement taking, securing and reviewing CCTV, log keeping, prisoner interviewing, Offences Taken into Consideration (TICs), intelligence interviews and file building. You will have full Officer in Case (OIC) responsibilities, including attending court and giving evidence. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with reactive and proactive crime teams, public protection, major and serious organised crime and other specialist roles. For those aspiring to be future leaders, the chief constable is committed to regular promotion opportunities.

We are looking for career-driven individuals who have the ability to make effective decisions; people who can plan and prioritise effectively to deliver a good service and actively seek to find solutions to problems. We also need people who can demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills. We expect all our staff to treat everyone with dignity and respect and to maintain the highest level of trust, confidentiality and integrity.
