We are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man was assaulted in his own home in Chandler's Ford.

It took place around 11pm on Tuesday 2 January at a house in Forest Road.

Four males, with their faces covered, forced entry to the house.

When the victim, a 49-year-old man, went to confront the males, he was struck on the head with a weapon. The males then ran from the address.

The victim was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment for serious but not life-threatening head injuries.

One of the males was described as wearing a grey coloured hooded top. The others were described as wearing dark clothing.

Detective Constable Russell Smith said: “This was a nasty assault and we would like to hear from anyone with information on what happened.

“Were you in the area of Forest Road at around this time?

“Did you notice four males together? Or perhaps you noticed vehicles in the area that you did not recognise? If so, please get in touch.”

If you have any information relating to this case, please call 101 quoting reference '44180002293', or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
