Man charged with possessing offensive weapon in Southampton city centre

A Southampton man has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon after being stopped in the city centre.
While out in the city yesterday (December 20), officers from the Neighbourhood Enforcement Team received information from a local resident who believed there was drug dealing going in the High Street.
The team immediately went to the location and stopped a man thought to be involved, arresting him on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class A, and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
Officers have now charged Zain Ahmed, 21, of Vine Road, Southampton, with possessing an offensive weapon in a public place. He has been remanded in custody to appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court this morning (December 21).
He has been bailed in relation to the possession of drugs with intent to supply while our enquiries continue.
