Full closure order extended at Southampton property connected to drug use and ASB

Officers have today successfully extended a full closure order on a residential property in the Weston area of Southampton, following concerns about drug-related harm and anti-social behaviour at the address.

The full closure order for the Hawkley Green house was initially granted by magistrates for a period of three months on October 9th 2024. Officers from the Peartree & Woolston Neighbourhood Policing Team attended Southampton Magistrates' Court again today (Wednesday 8 January), where a further three months' full closure order was granted.

Magistrates found that the extension of the existing closure order was a necessary step in order to prevent further disorder and criminal activity in or around the address.

The full closure order means that anyone found to enter the property - other than those who have a lawful reason to such as police, or other emergency services and agencies - will be liable for arrest and prosecution, which could result in up to six months in jail, a fine or both.

Acting Police Sergeant Vincent, who forms part of the Weston and Woolston Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This is a further step in the right direction for the local community, as it ensures that those persistently involved in criminality and anti-social behaviour at the property cannot return.

"This address has been a blight on residents for a number of years and I am really pleased that the full closure order has now been extended. I hope that this demonstrates our continued commitment to targeting individuals and addresses that cause misery to their neighbours through drug-related activity, anti-social behaviour and other criminality.

“We simply won’t tolerate this type of behaviour and offending and will work in partnership to explore every avenue to put a stop to it. This result today continues our pursuit of providing exceptional local policing, and I’d like to reassure local residents that we are listening and will continue to use all of the legislation available to us in order to protect you."

Please keep reporting information about dur-related activity, anti-social behaviour and other criminality in your area to us by either calling 101, or visiting the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website, as every piece of information we receive from you helps us develop the bigger picture and take action.
