A 27-year-old man from Andover has been jailed after assaulting his partner and brandishing a knife during an altercation in Basingstoke.
Thomas George Williams, of Launcelot Close in Andover, appeared before Winchester Crown Court yesterday (23 January) for sentencing.
He previously plead guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of criminal damage, intentional strangulation, and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
Williams was sentenced to 30 months in prison and is also subject to a restraining order.
This sentencing follows an incident on 9 October 2023, during which Williams assaulted the victim at her home address causing an injury above her eye. He also threw her against a wall causing damage.
During police attendance, the victim disclosed that Williams had strangled her a few days prior.
The court also heard how on two separate occasions, Williams caused damage to the victim’s phone. One time, by head-butting it, and the other by throwing it on the floor.
Williams was also sentenced for a separate incident on 13 November 2024, whereby he pulled out a knife during a heated exchange with another man on New Road, Basingstoke.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary make it clear that nobody – whether that be a woman, a man or a child – should ever be subjected to domestic abuse within an environment that they perceive to be a safe space.
We understand that it is not always easy to report incidents of this nature to us, especially when you have to re-live any trauma faced at the hands of an abuser, but we encourage victims to come forward and report incidents to us.
We are absolutely clear that we do not tolerate any form of domestic abuse or violence at all. Individuals who are intending to behave in this way and commit these offences will be found and will be stopped.
If you are being abused, or you know someone that is, please call 101 and report it to police, or make a report online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website. If it is an emergency, dial 999 immediately.
