Operation Defender: Supporting Southampton after dark

Police in Southampton are reminding people of the work being done in the city to support them when they are out and about in the evenings.
We work together to ensure that you can have a safe and enjoyable night out. Some of the agencies you will see in the city centre on weekend nights are:
Go! Southampton: Go! Southampton's night-time team helps support vulnerable people out in the evenings
Police: Police officers patrol the city centre at weekends and on Southampton's busiest nights, and are always available in emergencies on 999
Security staff: You will see security staff at the entrance of most pubs and clubs, as well as on the street and in the city centre's parks.
Street Pastors: Street Pastors patrol the city centre offering safety and support to those who need it on Friday and Saturday nights from 10.30pm-4am, approximately. They can also be requested via door staff.

Ask for Angela
If you’re on a night out in a club, pub or bar, keep an eye out for an Ask for Angela poster or sticker in the window.
If the venue makes use of the ‘Ask for Angela’ initiative, it means that they will be able to provide you with discreet support if someone is making you feel threatened or uncomfortable.
So how does it work?
If someone is making you feel unsafe, you can approach the bar and ask for ‘Angela’. Staff will then discreetly offer to separate you from the person who is causing you discomfort or distress, and ensure that you are able to leave safely.
