Two men have been arrested after a car was broken into in Farnborough last night.

We were called at 11.12pm on Thursday 5 September to reports that two men were seen breaking into a vehicle in the Cody Road area.

Items including cash and perfume were stolen from the vehicle.

Officers attended the scene and located one of the men on Holly Road. Another man was located on Victoria Road a short while later.

A 27-year-old man, of no fixed abode, and a 34-year-old man, from Aldershot, were arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle.

They both remain in custody while our enquiries continue.

Officers would like to take this opportunity to remind residents some crime prevention advice regarding theft from motor vehicles.

We know that this has been an ongoing issue in the district and we are aware of the affect it is having on the local community.

Please be reassured that enquiries are ongoing into recent reports and officers are continuing to gather evidence in order to arrest offenders.

Theft from motor vehicles are often opportunistic and offenders, hoping that the vehicle is unlocked, will try door handles. Please remain vigilant, ensure all doors are locked and that you do not leave valuables inside your vehicles.

Your mobile phone, coins for the car park, sunglasses, packs of medication or other items that can earn quick cash are irresistible to the opportunist thief.

Make sure to physically check that doors and window are locked, especially if you have used the remote to lock the vehicle, then look inside again to make sure you’ve not left anything on display, including ensuring that your glove box is closed.

Vans are often targeted by thieves for the tools stored inside. If you have to leave tools in a van overnight, it's a good idea to mark them clearly with your name / company name and address using paint pens and seal with a clear lacquer spray. Items that are clearly marked are less desirable and more difficult to sell on.

Consider using a lockable cabinet within your van to store tools – a number of security rated products are available. Small cameras are also designed to record inside vehicles. Visit https://www.securedbydesign.com/ for more details.

You can also take photographs of items of value, make a note of the serial numbers and consider registering them online at a property register site.

Further information and advice on how to keep your vehicle secure can be found on our website: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/cp/crime-prevention/keeping-vehicles-safe/vehicle-safe-and-sound/

If you witness any suspicious behaviour, or if you have been a victim, please contact police on 101 or on our website: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime/
