Five year prison sentence for drug dealer arrested near Alton

A 26 year-old man from London has been jailed for five years for drug dealing offences in East Hampshire.

Dadhurshanan Wairaiya of Ravenhill Road in London appeared for sentencing at Salisbury Crown Court on Friday 30 August, after pleading guilty to possession of a Class A drug (crack cocaine) with intent to supply and possession of a Class B drug.

A Nissan Qashqai was stopped on the A31 near Alton on Saturday 1 June as part of an investigation into drug dealing in the East Hampshire area.

The car had made regular trips between London, Farnham and East Hampshire, and during the roadside search, officers found and seized over 30 bags of crack cocaine wraps, a bag of cannabis, two mobile phones and other suspected drug related paraphernalia.

Wairaiya was arrested by the officers searching the car and subsequently charged. He appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Monday 3 June, where he pled guilty to the offences he was later sentenced for.

DC Becky Deacon from the Havant & Waterlooville Investigations Department said: “This is a significant sentence that demonstrates that we will not tolerate the supply of drugs in East Hampshire. Our message to those involved in the supply of drugs is simple. We will relentlessly pursue you until you face a day in court if you take part in similar activities. We recognise that people do travel into our communities in East Hampshire from elsewhere to commit these offences, so it’s especially important for members of the public to report activity that they believe could be related to the supply of drugs so that we can investigate accordingly.

“Drug supply causes harm and misery to our communities and we will continue to disrupt it and make sure that Hampshire & the Isle of Wight remains a hostile environment for drug dealers to operate in”.

Spotting the signs

• Do you know someone who is always going missing from school or their home?
• Are they travelling alone to places far away from home?
• Do they suddenly have lots of money/lots of new clothes/new mobile phones?
• Are they receiving much more calls or texts than usual?
• Are they carrying or selling drugs?
• Are they carrying weapons or know people that have access to weapons?
• Are they in a relationship with or hanging out with someone/people that are older and controlling?
• Do they have unexplained injuries?
• Do they seem very reserved or seem like they have something to hide?
• Do they seem scared?
• Are they self-harming?
