A woman who stole items from Basingstoke shops just days after being given a suspended sentence has been jailed for 16 weeks.
Donna Kemp, 40, of Melrose Walk, Basingstoke, was charged with 18 counts of theft from a shop and appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on 2 October.
It comes after officers received reports that items including food, alcohol and beauty products worth £436.25 were stolen from the One Stop on Shakespeare Road.
She pleaded guilty to those 18 charges and was handed a suspended sentence of 12 weeks.
However, she was later arrested and charged following shoplifting incidents on 25 September, 2 October and 9 October.
It comes after officers received reports that items including food and alcohol worth £12.25 were stolen from the One Stop on Sherborne Road.
Kemp pleaded guilty to three counts of theft from a shop yesterday (10 October) and was jailed for a total of 16 weeks, after her 12-week suspended sentence order was activated.
Basingstoke Police Sergeant Sanj Jassal said: “We know the impact Donna Kemp’s actions have had on businesses, shop workers and the wider community in Basingstoke.
“Our message is clear – shoplifting and this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in the town.
“We take reports like this extremely seriously and will do all we can to put offenders before the courts.”
