Shoplifter jailed for repeatedly targeting Southampton Co-op

A man who stole almost £300 worth of wine from a Co-op store in Southampton has been jailed.

Kieron Slack-Travers, 28, of Beauchamp Drive in Newport, Isle of Wight, appeared at Southampton Magistrates Court on Friday (15 November), where he pleaded guilty to three counts of theft.

The court heard how on three occasions between Friday 8 November and Tuesday 12 November, Slack-Travers stole a total of 39 bottles of wine, worth £292.40, from the Ocean Village Co-op.

He was arrested in Southampton on Thursday 14 November and charged with the three theft offences. He was also charged and pleaded guilty to one count of breaking bail conditions and one count of failing to attend/remain for initial assessment following a test for the presence of Class A drugs.

He has now been sentenced to five months in prison.

The actions of Slack-Travers and those who shoplift have a huge impact on businesses and staff, when they are simply trying to do their jobs.
