A man has been jailed for 12 weeks after he stole items worth more than £750 from a shop in Fleet.
Ben Price, 44, of Barnwood Road, Guildford, stole food and alcohol worth £758.70 from Sainsbury’s on Fleet Road on 6 November.
He was arrested and later charged with one count of theft from a shop.
Price pleaded guilty to the offence and was jailed for 12 weeks at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Thursday 14 November.
PC Terry Read, from the Fleet Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Our message is clear – shoplifting in the Fleet area will not be tolerated.
"The actions of shoplifters makes a huge difference to shop owners as they will have to recover the costs which have been lost. This results in shops typically increasing prices, which has a huge impact on the wider public.
"This sentencing should send a clear message to others who are thinking about stealing from the businesses in our area.
"It will not be tolerated and we will work hard to bring you before the courts, where you will face the consequences."
