Additional stop and search powers have been authorised today in Thornhill after an assault which happened yesterday (May 10).
The powers, which are allowed under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, will cover the area in the map, and are in place through until 11pm tonight (May 11).
It has been authorised after two men in their 30s suffered injuries after being hit with a baton after being confronted by two teenagers just before 7pm yesterday evening.
During the assault, a machete was also reported to have been seen. No one was stabbed in the assault.
A 16-year-old from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
Officers have conducted additional patrols and been making enquiries in the area, and the additional stop and search powers have been authorised as part of this response.
Inspector Tim Boennic said: "While I know the local community will be concerned to learn of this incident, I want to reassure you all that a full investigation is underway and we will ensure we focus our patrols in the area throughout the weekend.
"The people involved are known to each other, and we do not believe there to be a wider threat to the public.
"Section 60 powers allow officers to stop and search anyone in an area where there has either been serious violence, or that it is believed serious violence may occur imminently.
"If you have any concerns or questions, then please do approach officers in the area, who will be happy to speak with you and discuss any issues."
