Man charged with string of theft incidents in Southampton city centre

A Southampton man has been charged in connection with a string of shoplifting and theft incidents in the city.

David Anthony Thorn, 42, of Evenlode Road, has been charged with six counts of theft from a motor vehicle, one count of vehicle interference, two counts of burglary, one count of theft from a shop and one count of common assault.

Thorn was arrested on Friday (July 26) by Southampton’s City Centre Unit in connection with the following incidents:

• On April 7^th, April 8^th, July 22^nd, July 24^th and July 25^th this year, six electronic tablets were stolen from buses in Southampton city centre.
•  On May 1^st two electronic tablets and a till was stolen from Ding Tea in the city centre.
• On May 16^th fragrances worth £265 were taken from the John Lewis store in West Quay Shopping Centre.
• On July 2^nd, the Moss Bros store on Above Bar Street was broken into in the early hours of the morning and various items of high value clothing were taken.
• On July 26^th a man was seen trying to enter several cars on Woodmill Lane, successfully gaining entry to one vehicle. When a member of the public tried to intervene he was assaulted, causing a minor injury to his arm.

Thorn appeared at Southampton Magistrates Court yesterday (Monday 29 July) and has been remanded into custody to next appear on Monday 19 August.
