Man charged with Newport theft and assault offences

A man has been charged with stealing hundreds of pounds worth of goods on the Isle of Wight.

Daniel Drake, aged 40, of Holyrood Street in Newport, has been charged with the following:

• Theft of £385.34 worth of goods from Sainsbury’s in Newport on 1 January this year.
• Theft of £316 worth of goods from Morrison’s in Newport on 1 January this year.
• Common assault against a man in his 30s in Town Lane, Newport, on 1 January this year.

Drake was remanded in custody to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court today (2 January).
