A man has been charged after bank cards were taken from a car in Southampton over the weekend.
At approximately 6.15am on Sunday (28 January) a car parked on Osborne Road South was broken into and a bag was taken.
Bank cards that had been inside the bag were used a short time later at stores in Portswood.
Officers were alerted by a member of the public to a man who was attempting to use cards that didn't belong to him at a newsagents on Portswood Road. Police attended and carried out a stop and search on the man, who was found to be in possession of bank cards that were not in his name. He was arrested and taken into police custody.
Matthew Stevens, 23, of Southampton Road in Cadnam, has now been charged with theft from a motor vehicle, handling stolen goods, two counts of fraud by false representation, criminal damage and breach of a criminal behaviour order.
He has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court today (Monday 29 January).
