Officers investigating a serious assault in Basingstoke have arrested a man.
On Friday 5 January, we received a report that on Friday 29 December an 18-year-old man had been assaulted by a man unknown to him on Oakridge Road at approximately 11.05pm.
It was reported that a man exited a black/grey sports car, similar to a Golf GTI with under lighting, just before the junction with Upton Crescent and assaulted the victim.
The victim sustained significant facial injuries including a broken orbital bone. He was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
Since this was reported to us, officers have been carrying out a number of enquiries and have now arrested a man.
A 23-year-old man from Basingstoke has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in custody and our enquiries are ongoing.
Officers would like to once again appeal to the public and potential witnesses for information.
Were you in the area of Oakridge Road at around 11pm on Friday 29 December and recall seeing an assault?
We are particularly keen to hear from a person who was standing next to the Tesco Express store, who we believe saw what happened.
