Woman jailed and banned from pubs and shops in Andover town centre

A woman has been jailed for eight weeks, and has been made subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), following shoplifting and public order offences.

Daria Boguslawska, 34, of Tailor Close, Andover, was sentenced when she appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Monday 26 February.

She admitted one count of battery, three counts of public order, three counts of racially aggravated public order, and two counts of theft.

The court heard that the offences relate to incidents that took place in Andover between July and September last year.

One incident, that took place on Sunday 24 September, involved Boguslawska making racially offensive remarks to another woman in the John Russell Fox pub in High Street.

At the hearing, Boguslawska was also made subject to a two-year CBO, which was applied for by officers from Andover’s Neighbourhood Policing Team.

The application detailed her behaviour, including multiple reports of shoplifting and public order incidents in the town centre in the past year.

Under the order, Boguslawska is prohibited from entering 18 shops, cafes and pubs in the town centre.

She is also prohibited from abusing any member of the public, hospitality worker or retail worker within or outside any premises in the town. She is also banned from consuming alcohol in any public place in Andover.

CBOs are imposed by a court and can restrict where you go, who you associate with, and what activities you are allowed to take part in.

Breaching the order is a criminal offence, which can lead to a prison sentence.

PC Sarah Thorne, from Andover’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Boguslawska has persistently caused a nuisance in the town centre, both to the businesses that operate there and Andover residents going about their daily lives.

“She has shown little regard for the law or the impact her offending has had on people.

“We are committed to looking at all options available to us, including the use of CBOs, to reduce anti-social behaviour and take action against those responsible.

“We would encourage affected residents to keep reporting incidents to us so we can take the appropriate action.”
