A man has appeared in court after being charged with attempted arson and criminal damage following an incident in Basingstoke.
Officers were called to a report that the glass doors at the Texaco petrol station on Churchill Way West had been sprayed with suspected flammable liquid on Sunday 25 February. A fire did not start and no one was injured.
A man was arrested and later that night, he allegedly damaged recording equipment inside an interview room while in custody.
Graeme Walton, 56, of Lundy Close, Basingstoke, was charged with attempted arson with intent to endanger life and criminal damage to property valued under £5,000.
He appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Tuesday 27 February and was remanded into custody.
Walton is due to appear at Winchester Crown Court on Wednesday 27 March.
