A 41-year-old man has been jailed for 11 weeks for multiple shopliftings at various stores in Hythe.
Lee Paul Barnes, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Southampton Magistrates’ Court last Monday (12 February).
He was also ordered to pay £396.40 in compensation following the 11 incidents between July and November last year.
Eight of the thefts occurred at Tesco Express, Langdown Lawn. From this store, he stole more than £200 worth of meat, coffee, chocolate, cheese, biscuits, laundry detergent and advent calendars.
Two of the thefts were from One Stop, Fairview Parade, where he stole more than £50 worth of meat and chocolate.
The other theft took place at Superdrug, High Street, where Barnes left the store with £179 worth of make-up, having made no attempt to pay for it. Barnes pleaded guilty to all 11 offences.
If you are a shop owner or staff member, please continue to report any shopliftings to us.
You can do this by calling 101, or by reporting online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website.
You can also contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
With your information, we can take action, including arresting and charging suspects and convicting offenders at court, as the above again demonstrates.
