A 21-year-old man from Totton has been jailed for 12 weeks for a series of shoplifting offences.
Shane Wright, of no fixed abode, was sentenced after stealing from stores in Totton between June 2023 and January this year.
As well as the time he’ll now spend behind bars, Wright has also been ordered to pay £332 in compensation.
It follows shoplifting incidents at Morrisons Daily on Water Lane and Tesco Express on Nutshalling Close, Calmore, as well as further shopliftings and a making off without payment from Morrisons, Spruce Drive.
On one occasion, on Wednesday 4 October, Wright stole £125 worth of goods from Morrisons Daily. Prior to that, on Tuesday 4 July, he stole £74.20 worth of meat from the Spruce Drive Morrisons.
On Friday 13 October, he failed to pay for £87.23 worth of fuel from Morrisons, Spruce Drive.
Wright, who pleaded guilty to all charges against him, was sentenced at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Friday 9 February.
Reacting to the latest success, New Forest Acting Inspector, Rob Blake, said: “I am really pleased with this outcome, and to see another shoplifter placed behind bars.
“I hope this result again highlights our emphasis and commitment to seriously addressing and tackling shoplifting across the New Forest.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight constabulary understand the significant impact this type of crime has on our businesses and the wider community.
Rest assured, our proactive response in the relentless pursuit of criminals will create a hostile environment in the New Forest, ensuring a safe and more secure community for all.
We want to make it easier for businesses to report crime to us, as we know this takes up a significant amount of their time.
