A man has been jailed for 17 weeks after he stole items worth more than £1,300 from a shop and assaulted a man in Farnborough.
Marley Warner, 29, of Shelley Rise, Farnborough, was charged with 11 counts of theft from a shop and one count of assault by beating.
It comes after meat, fish, chocolate and household goods worth a total of £1,337.23 were stolen from the store at the BP fuel station on Prospect Road between October and December this year.
A man, who attempted to stop Warner from stealing items, was assaulted inside the shop on Thursday 12 December.
Warner was arrested and charged and pleaded guilty to all offences at Basingstoke Magistrates Court. He was jailed for a total of 17 weeks on Tuesday 17 December.
PC Kiana Austin from the Farnborough Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Our message is clear – shoplifting in the Farnborough area will not be tolerated.
"Warner brazenly stole goods worth more than £1,300 from the same shop in Farnborough during a prolonged period.
"He also assaulted a man and this behaviour is not acceptable. Warner was arrested, charged and will now spend time behind bars for what he did.
"The actions of shoplifters make a huge difference to shop owners as they will have to recover the costs which have been lost. This results in shops typically increasing prices, which has a huge impact on the wider public.
"This sentencing should send a clear message to others who are thinking about stealing from the businesses in our area. It will not be tolerated and we will work hard to bring you before the courts, where you will face the consequences."
