Officers investigating the robbery and serious assault of two men in Southampton over the weekend have now made an arrest.
This comes after we were called at 9.35pm on Sunday (4 August) to reports of an altercation taking place on Starboard Way.
A man in his 20s and a man in his 30s were walking along Starboard Way when they were approached by a group of males unknown to them who attempted to steal rucksacks from the pair. The group were then joined by two further people on mopeds and one on a bicycle.
Both men were then assaulted with a wooden table leg, causing them serious injuries.
The man in his 20s sustained serious injuries to his head and the man in his 30s suffered serious injuries to his face and jaw. Both were taken to hospital for treatment, one victim has since been discharged while one remains in hospital.
A third man, who is in his 40s, sustained minor injuries to his arm.
We have now arrested a 17-year-old boy from Southampton on suspicion of robbery, racially/religiously aggravated wounding/actual bodily harm, and two counts of racially/religiously aggravated wounding/grievous bodily harm. He remains in police custody at the current time.
Our enquiries continue today, and we are still keen to hear from any witnesses, or anyone with CCTV/Ring Doorbell footage that have not yet spoken to police. We would also like to hear from anyone who was driving through the area around the time of the assaults and has dash cam footage that may have captured something.
Anyone with information that may assist our enquiries should get in touch with us as soon as possible by calling 101 or visiting https://www.hampshire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report/ quoting the reference number 44240332688.
