Shoplifter handed Criminal Behaviour Order and banned from Aldershot for two years

A prolific shoplifter has been banned from Aldershot for two years.

Takunda Kamanga, 25, received a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) following a hearing at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Friday 1 December.

Kamanga, of Farnborough Road, Farnborough, was in court having been charged with three counts of theft from a shop.

He pleaded guilty at Southampton Magistrates Court on Saturday 11 November.

It comes after officers received reports that items worth more than £520 were stolen from JD Sports, Bargain Buys and Boots in Aldershot between 31 October and 8 November.

Officers from the Aldershot Neighbourhood Policing Team put together the application for the CBO which detailed Kamanga’s previous shoplifting offences.

Kamanga is now prevented from entering Aldershot. He was also ordered to pay £100 in compensation.

CBOs, which have replaced ASBOs, are imposed by a court and can restrict where you go, who you associate with, and what activities you are allowed to take part in.

Breaching the order is a criminal offence, which can lead to a prison sentence.

Inspector Mike Hall, from the Aldershot Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Takunda Kamanga was a prolific shoplifter in the Aldershot area.

“His behaviour has impacted our local businesses, shop workers and the wider community.

“I’m pleased to say that our officers have been proactive in working with retailers to bring shoplifters to justice and in this case, successfully apply for a Criminal Behaviour Order.

“We will continue to look at all options available to us to relentlessly pursue those who offend in this way.”
