A man who tried to rob a woman in a hospital car park has been convicted.
On Tuesday 7 December 2022, a woman in her 60s was approached by 47-year-old Nerijus Suminskas in the North Car Park of St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.
Suminskas grabbed hold of the woman and a struggle ensued, before Suminskas put his hand in her bag but did not manage to steal anything.
The victim called out for help and two members of the public came to her aid, one of which detained Suminskas at the scene until police arrived and arrested him.
Suminskas, of no fixed abode, was subsequently charged with attempted robbery, which he admitted when he appeared at Isle of Wight Crown Court yesterday (16 January 2023).
He was remanded in custody to appear at the same court for sentencing on 24 February.
