Update on Basingstoke serious assault investigation

A second man who was arrested in connection with a serious assault in Basingstoke will have no further action taken against him.
It comes after we were called at 11.41pm on Wednesday, 1 February to a playing field on Tewkesbury Close in Popley after a 19-year-old man sustained what is believed to be three gun-shot wounds to his leg.
The victim was taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening but he remains in hospital at this time.
An 18-year-old man from Basingstoke was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has been questioned by officers and released on police bail with conditions while enquiries continue.
Yesterday (Thursday 16 February) officers arrested a second man on suspicion of attempted murder. Following extensive enquiries this man has been released from custody and no further action will be taken against him.
Enquiries are ongoing and officers continue to appeal for information in respect of this incident.
