A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a serious assault in Basingstoke.
At 11.41pm on Wednesday, 1 February we were called to a playing field on Tewkesbury Close in Popley after a 19-year-old man sustained what is believed to be three gun-shot wounds to his leg.
The victim was taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Last night (Thursday 2 February), officers arrested an 18-year-old man from Basingstoke on suspicion of attempted murder. He is currently in police custody.
A scene remains at the playing field in Tewkesbury Close, and officers will continue to carry out enquiries there today.
Detective Chief Inspector Emma Crute from Northern Investigation Team said “This is an extremely serious incident in which a 19-year-old man has sustained three gun-shot wounds to his leg.
“This is a fast paced and complex investigation and we are working hard to establish the exact circumstances and identify those involved.
“I would like to thank everyone who has already come forward to tell us what they know. Each piece of information received is a vital piece of the puzzle that will help us identify those responsible.
“I urge anyone who has any information, no matter how small it may seem, to get in touch.”
