A man has been jailed for a year after stealing tobacco products and alcohol worth more than £5,600 from the SPAR shop in Kingsclere.
Tazarab Bashir, 44, of no fixed abode, broke into the store on Swan Street at around 2am on Tuesday 9 May this year.
Once inside, he stole tobacco products and alcohol which was worth £5,645.38.
Officers launched an investigation and Bashir was identified after forensic work was carried out at the scene.
Bashir admitted burglary other than dwelling – theft at Winchester Crown Court and was jailed for 12 months on Wednesday 13 December.
Detective Sergeant Adam Knight, from the Northern Area Crime Team, said: “We will not tolerate this type of criminality across the district.
“Bashir brazenly targeted this store and stole high value items during the middle of the night.
“Following an extensive investigation, officers were able to identify and later charge Bashir with burglary.
“He will now suffer the consequences of his actions, and I hope the community can feel reassured that he is now behind bars.”
