A man has been jailed for two years and eight months after assaulting a man and stealing items worth more than £4,000 from shops in Farnborough and Yateley.
Jamie McCaul, 42, of no fixed abode, was charged with ten counts of theft from a shop and assault by beating.
He was also charged with using threatening / abusive / insulting words / behaviour with intent to cause fear of / provoke unlawful violence.
It comes after items including champagne, cleaning products and electric toothbrushes were stolen from various stores in Farnborough and Yateley between June and September this year.
The total value of items stolen was more than £4,000.
Meanwhile, on 5 August, McCaul assaulted a man in Farnborough. He then threatened another man in Yateley on 30 August.
Appearing at Winchester Crown Court yesterday (13 December), McCaul was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison. He pleaded guilty to all 12 offences.
As well as a custodial sentence, McCaul also received a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) which was approved for the maximum period of five years.
It means he is banned from entering any Waitrose, Shell, Budgens, Co-op, Lidl, Asda or Tesco store in the Hart and Rushmoor area until 13 December 2028.
Also, he must leave any shop or commercial premises if asked to do so by staff.
PC Dan Eaves, from the Hart & Rushmoor Priority Crime Team, said: “Jamie McCaul is a prolific shoplifter who brazenly stole high value items from a number of stores across the district.
“His behaviour and disregard for the law had a significant impact on various local businesses and retailers in our area.
“I hope this result sends a message to offenders that this level of behaviour and criminality in the local community will not be tolerated.
“Not only has he been put behind bars, he has also been banned from entering various stores in Hart and Rushmoor for the maximum period of five years.
“Our officers will look at all of the options available to us so we ensure we continue to relentlessly pursue criminals who behave in this way.”
