Police investigating a robbery in Eastleigh town centre have arrested two people in connection with the incident.
It comes after local CCTV operators alerted police officers to a robbery in progress at around 4.05pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday, August 24) on Market Street; with a large group of young people dispersing upon the arrival of officers.
A number of teenage boys were detained by officers for the purposes of being searched as a result of the incident. They were later released with no further action.
Prior to this, an attempted robbery occurred on Market Street at around 3.55pm reportedly involving the same large group.
Three teenagers reported that they were followed to a stairwell leading towards a restaurant. They were surround by the group and verbally threatened – leaving them feeling fearful of violence – and not allowing the three boys to leave the area.
The large group then fled the scene.
Two 15-year-old boys from Southampton were subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and false imprisonment. They have since been released on conditional bail – which includes not to enter Eastleigh town centre.
