A dispersal order under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 has been authorised for Newport town centre.
The dispersal zone covers the whole of the town centre which includes the bus station, Church Litten and the High Street shops.
It was authorised at 8pm last night (30 October) and will run for 36 hours until 8am tomorrow morning (1 November).
The dispersal order enables police to deal with any issues of anti-social behaviour in the directed area more effectively, and gives our officers the power to order a person to leave the area with no return within the specified time period. Those who refuse to comply with the order are committing a criminal offence and are liable for arrest.
Individuals who are aged under 16 will be taken be to their home address, and follow-up work will be done with parents.
Anyone with information about anti-social behaviour is asked to contact police on 101, or submit information to us online via our reporting tool here: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/ro/report/asb/asb-v3/report-antisocial-behaviour/
If a crime is in progress, call 999.
