Officers investigating a serious assault in Binstead have charged a man.
Police were called at 11.10am on 20 June this year to an address in Newnham Road where a woman had suffered injuries, which were not deemed to be life-threatening.
She was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.
A man was arrested at the scene and subsequently taken to hospital for treatment to injuries sustained during this incident. Following further questioning yesterday (Monday 24 October), he has now been charged.
Michael Lee Orton, 59, of Newnham Road in Binstead, has been charged with attempted murder and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today.
