A man has been jailed for an aggravated burglary in Ryde.
At around 6.15pm on Saturday 13 August this year, police were called to an incident in Melville Street in Ryde, where 59-year-old Andrew Saurin was observed standing in the street with a knife whilst shouting threats towards someone in a nearby flat.
During the incident, Saurin smashed a glass door to gain access to the address.
Police attended and arrested Saurin whilst he continued to make threats. He was subsequently charged with aggravated burglary and possession of a knife in a public place.
Saurin, of Melville Street in Ryde, admitted both offences when he appeared at Newport Crown Court on 26 September.
Appearing at the same court today (Tuesday 29 November), he was jailed for 5 years and 6 months.
Following the sentencing, DC Jess Hughes said: “We simply do not tolerate any form of violence in our communities, and take a particularly robust stance against those who carry knives.
“I am pleased that justice has been delivered so swiftly, and hope the outcome of this case acts as a stark reminder to people of the consequences of violent behaviour.”
