Police officers responding to reports of a robbery in progress in the Hythe area have arrested four people.
It is alleged that a man entered Tesco Express on Langdown Lawn in Hythe at around 10.25pm yesterday evening (Sunday 10 July) and approached a staff member, before threatening them with a knife.
The man has then demanded cash and cigarettes from another member of staff before fleeing the scene.
Police enquires led officers to an address on Maritime Avenue in Marchwood where they located and detained three people in a vehicle and a further person in a nearby property.
A search of the vehicle and property uncovered quantities of cash and cigarettes – which were seized for evidential purposes.
A 45-year-old woman from Marchwood, a 41-year-old man from Southampton and a 35-year-old man of no fixed abode were arrested on suspicion of robbery.
While a 60-year-old man from Marchwood was also arrested on suspicion of conspiring to commit robbery.
They all remain in custody at this time.
