Police officers deployed to a shoplifting and assault incident in New Milton yesterday (18 Nov) have arrested a man.
It comes after a man was seen to enter McColls on Avenue Road at around 1.50pm and a staff member noticing him acting suspiciously.
It is reported that a number of items had been placed inside the man’s coat and scarf before attempting to leave the store without paying.
An altercation ensued between the man and the shopkeeper as he tried to leave the store, resulting in the staff member being dragged a short distance by the arms.
Eventually the man left the shop, but was located a short while later by local officers and arrested.
A 23-year-old man from Sway was arrested on suspicion of robbery.
He remains in custody at this time.
