A family has paid tribute to a ‘loving and caring’ woman who died in a collision on the A27 Kanes Hill in Bursledon on Saturday (17 July).
At around 1.20am, a black Audi A3 travelling eastbound and a blue Ford Focus travelling in the opposite direction collided head-on.
The passenger of the Ford Focus, Mia Wort, 18, from Honeysuckle Road, Southampton, was taken to hospital where she died from her injuries.
Paying tribute to Mia, her family said: “Words cannot express the heartache we all feel by having Mia taken away from us so suddenly and so unnecessarily.
“She was a loving and caring daughter, sister and mother.
“We watched with pride as she took her first steps as a new parent with her family by her side. She was looking forward to a long future with her daughter; this has now been taken away from her and leaves a void that can never be filled.
“As a family we will pull together to ensure that her memory never fades away and that her daughter will know her mother.”
A 36-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst over the prescribed limit; dangerous driving; failing to stop following a road traffic collision; aggravated vehicle taking; causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by careless driving and causing death by driving whilst disqualified. He has been released under investigation as enquiries continue.
Officers have renewed their appeal for witnesses or anyone who may have information that can help them find out the exact circumstances of the collision.
Did you see what happened? Do you have dash cam footage of the incident? Maybe you saw either of these vehicles shortly before the collision?
