Man charged following racially aggravated incident in Southampton

A man has been charged with a racially aggravated public order offence, criminal damage and assaulting a police officer following an incident in Southampton earlier this week.
Shortly after 1pm on Tuesday 12 January, police responded to reports of a public order incident at Tesco on London Road, Southampton.
On arrival, a man was located by an officer who was then assaulted.
The officer suffered a minor injury to his arm.
Ross McFarlane, 34, of Millbrook Road East, was charged with:
- Racially aggravated threatening or abusive words/behaviour likely to cause harassment alarm or distress
- Criminal damage
- Assault of an emergency worker
McFarlane has been remanded in custody and is next due to appear at Southampton Crown Court on Thursday, 4 February.
