Man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault in Southampton

We have today (Thursday 16 December) arrested a man on suspicion of sexual assault after a 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on Wimpson Lane at 7.30am on Tuesday 14 December.
It was reported a man unknown to her approached her and her friend and sexually assaulted her.
Yesterday, we made an appeal for information, witnesses and dash cam footage. We continue to appeal for this. We urge anyone who was in the area of Wimpson Lane or Romsey Road between 7.20am and 7.40am on Tuesday morning to get in touch with us.
Today, as part of our enquiries, we have arrested a 19-year-old man from Southampton on suspicion of sexual assault.
He remains in police custody at this time.
The girl continues to be supported by specialist officers.
