Officers appeal for witnesses and give crime prevention advice after recent theft from motor vehicle reports in Fleet

Officers investigating recent reports of theft from vehicles in Fleet would like to appeal for witnesses and remind residents of some crime prevention advice.

We are aware of the impact that this has on the local community, but please be reassured that enquiries are ongoing as we continue to gather evidence in order to arrest offenders.

In recent reports, vehicles have been accessed and a number of items, including cash, cards and tools, have been stolen.

We have received reports that:

• A BMW car was accessed at Fleet Mill on Minley Road between 00.01am on 16/02 and 04.00am on 17/02. A watch and cash was stolen (44250072720).
• A Volkswagen car was accessed at Fleet Mill between 8pm on 16/02 and 8am on 17/02. Cash was stolen (44250074045).
• A Citroen car was accessed at Fleet Mill between 10pm on 16/02 and 6.30am on 17/02. Cash was stolen (44250074084).
• A Toyota car was accessed at Fleet Mill between 00.01am on 17/02 and 06.00am on 17/02. A scarf was taken (44250074033).
• An Audi car was accessed on Connaught Road at around 6pm on 16/02. A wallet and coat were stolen (44250074056).
• A Volkswagen car was accessed at Duchess Court, Fleet Road, at around 2.45am on 17/02. A bank card and a spare key were stolen (44250072690).
• An MG car was accessed on Duchess Court, Fleet Road, at around 2.45am on 17/02. A bag was taken (44250072546).
• A Kia car was accessed on Angora Way between 8pm on 16/02 and 6.30am on 17/02. A wallet was stolen (44250072525).
• A BMW car was accessed on Tamworth Drive at around 4.45am on 17/02. A number of cards were taken (44250074052).
• A SsangYong car was accessed on Ancells Road at around 4.20am on 17/02. Food was stolen (44250072583).
• A Toyota truck was accessed outside Premier Inn on Fleet Road between 4pm on 17/02 and 6.40am on 18/02. A number of tools were stolen (44250074180).

Our teams are investigating these reports and following solid lines of enquiry to locate those responsible.

Theft from motor vehicles are often opportunistic and offenders, hoping that the vehicle is unlocked, will try door handles. Please remain vigilant, ensure all doors are locked and that you do not leave valuables inside your vehicles.

Your mobile phone, coins for the car park, sunglasses, packs of medication or other items that can earn quick cash are irresistible to the opportunist thief.

Make sure to physically check that doors and window are locked, especially if you have used the remote to lock the vehicle, then look inside again to make sure you’ve not left anything on display, including ensuring that your glove box is closed.

Vans are often targeted by thieves for the tools stored inside. If you have to leave tools in a van overnight, it's a good idea to mark them clearly with your name / company name and address using paint pens and seal with a clear lacquer spray. Items that are clearly marked are less desirable and more difficult to sell on.
