Special services for families of those who have lost their lives on the road ​

Families of people who have lost their lives on the roads in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight will take part in a special service this weekend to commemorate their loved ones.

The Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit will be holding a memorial service to support the families and friends of those who have died as a result of collisions on our roads.

The service will be held at 2.30pm in Christ Church, Christchurch Road, Winchester, on Sunday, 17 November, and will be led by Revd Dom Jones.

Also attending the services will be local dignitaries, roads policing officers and personnel from fire and ambulance services who all wish to pay their respects.

Families and friends who have been bereaved as a result of road traffic collisions are also invited to attend the services in remembrance of their loved ones.

Chief Inspector Emma Hart, of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, said: “The death of a loved one in such tragic circumstances always has a significant and life-long impact on those left behind.

“This service is an opportunity for the family, friends and colleagues of those who have lost their lives, to come together and remember them.”

Revd Dom Jones added: "These services are such an important annual event for the force and the community. They serve as a timely reminder of the dangers of our roads but first and foremost, they are an opportunity for our families to come together to spend some time with others who have experienced losing a loved one on the roads. I truly wish we did not have to have these services. However, it is a privilege for me to lead them and I hope that they can be of some support to those who attend.”
