We received reports that on Saturday 4 May, between 6:45pm and 7:00pm, a 14 year-old boy was out walking in Romsey when he was approached by a man in a blue vehicle.

The boy was walking along a path on Foster Way, (where it crosses with Chivers Way), when a man in a blue vehicle drove alongside him, stopped and spoke to him. The boy ran away and was not hurt.

We have been in the area conducting enquiries and have been speaking with local residents who might have seen what happened. However, we want to ensure that we reach anyone who may have information, or doorbell camera footage, that could help with our enquiries.

We would like to speak with anyone who was in the area at the time and saw a man of the following description acting suspiciously:

  • White
  • Aged in his 60s
  • Skinny build
  • Small amount of dark hair
  • Wearing a black t-shirt
  • Driving a dark coloured (possibly dark blue) vehicle, possibly in the style of a people carrier

We are also keen to talk to anyone with dashcam footage that was driving around the location at the time.

PS Jez Boughay from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team said “The local community may understandably be concerned to hear of this report, and we would like to reassure you that we are doing everything we can to investigate the circumstances.

"Our officers will remain in the area conducting enquiries and patrolling. Please do come and speak to them if you have any information or concerns.”

If you have any information that could help us with our investigations, please contact us on 101 quoting 44240187153, or go online to report via How to tell us about an existing case or report | Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.

Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111, or visit their website, below.
