On Wednesday 5 June, between 10:45pm and 11:15pm, we were contacted by colleagues in the Royal Navy Police, who had been flagged down by a member of the public around Winston Churchill Avenue and Alec Rose Lane in Portsmouth.
The member of the public reported witnessing a woman in her 30s being assaulted by a man in the car park area of Portsmouth combined courts. The witness then left the scene as officers attended and located the woman, who was not injured.
A 31 year-old man from Portsmouth was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault and theft from a person. He has been released on conditional bail whilst enquiries continue.
We are looking to identify the witness who originally stopped the Royal Navy Police, who has been described as a man wearing a high-vis jacket and riding a bike, as they may have information that can assist with our investigation.
We are also keen to speak to anyone else who witnessed this incident and may have information that can help us. Please contact us either by calling 101, or by reporting online via https://www.hampshire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report/, quoting incident number 44240236633.
You can also call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
