Officers investigating a rape in Romsey are appealing for witnesses

We’re appealing for witnesses after a woman in her 20s reported being raped in Romsey.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, 28 July, between 1am and 8am.

The victim had left Banning Street at around 1am, and walked to a nearby footbridge towards the A3090.

An unknown man has then approached her and attacked her.

An investigation is underway and the woman is being supported by specially trained officers.

Detective Inspector Claire Shawley, from Hampshire Constabulary’s Operation Amberstone team, said: “Officers are carrying out extensive enquiries to ascertain the exact circumstances, and narrow down the timescale. We would like to appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity in the early hours this morning to get in touch. 

“Were you in the area this morning between 1am and 8am? Did you see anything suspicious?

“If you have CCTV, including a ring doorbell, or were driving in the area at the time and have dash-cam footage, please get in touch.

“Officers from Romsey’s Neighbourhood Policing Team will be carrying out increased patrols in the area. If you have any concerns or information, please don’t hesitate to speak to them.
